There has been a lot of talk and speculation in the media, as well as in the social media on what transpired in the meeting that some participants of My Gov and Social media had with the PM, narendra Modi ji.

just want to share what the PM spoke to us on that day, (as much as I can remember, not a verbatim account, for sure)

1. the initial remarks were a very graceful thanks to the participants of that meeting.

2. Modiji, thanked the members who have been actively participating in My gov platform and providing invaluable insights and solutions, quite a lot of whom have been astonishing and original. MyGov is a platform for interactive governance on a nationwide scale. everyone can provide inputs on same, with the assurance that each suggestion is being looked into

3. Modiji thanked the participants of social media, the small numbers present there, and the millions outside who could not be. He very emotionally thanked the "selfless, dedicated Warriors of social media", who want nothing, have never asked for anything, not even for tickets (humourously). (aap logon ne kabhi kuch nahin maanga, na chaha, aur ticket bhi nahin maangi)  He also said that this meeting was kept at a very short notice, and must have been difficult for some to attend.

4. Modiji said that Social media is a medium for change, a positive change. news flow is now not controlled by a few, but has been made available to everyone, who owns a phone. Ultimately, it is for us to decide what we want to consume as news. Social media has all the ingredients to be an alternate media, but the denizens of this medium have to decide it.

5. Modiji said, how Social media can be a harbinger of positive change in society, how it can be used to talk, discuss and converse about things said unsaid or less said in the MSM.

6. he mentioned and appreciated how when someone is written in a negative manner, or with falsehoods, the social media has kept on fighting against it, while the person abused, may well have gone to sleep.
(Jiske baare mein galat bayaani hoti hai, woh to shayad chain se so jaata hoga, lekin aap log lage rehte hain der raat tak uska bachaav karne mein, sahi baat rakhne main. Gharwaalon ki daant-fatkaar bhi khaate honge, yeh kaisa junoon hai).

7. He asked the participants if they were  not tired of watching the same old repetitive faces, day-in and day-out on TV debates.  He also mentioned , how we, the social media warriors have made the MSM back down in various instances, when they reported anything which was not true.

8. Modiji also mentioned on how many of us, maybe from our offices, or homes, or travelling have been spreading news, not given out by traditional media. He said, every time you tweet, it is an ACT.
Prabhughat is a shining example of what Social media can do, and is its strength

9. Mentioning the #selfiewithdaughter campaign, Modiji said he was overwhelmed by the response from India and abroad. This would send out a message to the world, that India is not like the general perception created about us, and that INDIA CARES. It is a brave new world, charting out a new course. In this context, he mentioned, how even this positive campaigns can be hijacked, and people will try to spread negativity about it. his advise was not to respond, or narrative may well be lost

9. Modiji said there is a vast difference between criticism and abuse. criticism can be done effectively with good language, has more impact. You have the strength of language to criticise in a decent manner, abuse makes your case weak. Negativity does not help the writer or the reader. Howsoever strong your points maybe, if u use abusive language, people will tend to overlook your points. Even a good narrative will be lost, if language is abusive.

10. Modiji mentioned the fact on how much negativity was spread against him by media. and how if you could print all those articles criticising him, then the Taj Mahal complex would not suffice to keep it. also mentioned how much abuse he has got on SM, but has never blocked anyone.

These were the main, salient points during the interaction

1st July will count as one of those Lifetime moments of my life. That day I got to fulfil a dream, beyond any expectations, and meet our Prime-minister Shri Narendra Modiji. a surreal experience, which seems almost like a dream now.

thoughts on the meeting and what the PM said, I will try and blog later.

I was also extremely fortunate to be given an opportunity to say a few words in front of the PM, and I chose to speak on Social media and the way it is opening up new frontiers for governance and my expectation from the same.

this is the short statement I gave in the meet:

Thank you for the invite to meet the Prime-minister and also for the opportunity to speak a few words.

Social media and information technology has indeed given us, the people, a voice in public matters and governance. The major plus point is the 2-way communication/ inter-action. This makes it very dynamic, very fast and also result oriented.

With increasing penetration of IT, through phones, and its very easy acceptability in the furthest reaches of the country, digitisation will be a very important tool of development and also enable the development to take place faster, and be targeted better.

I am sure the My-Gov platform will be used to effectively advertise the various schemes being launched by the Govt. Thus enabling it reaches the lowest strata of society and the dream of of us "Antyodaya" is realised at the earliest.

Thank you.

with jelly legs, rapid heartbeats and 10 minutes to prepare, not sure if it made any sense to anyone.
